CML

Mrs. Chan Mei-ling

Resident, Full Comfort Package

"I was quite uncertain about moving here at first. My daughter suggested it and I was not ready to admit I needed any help. But after a week, the uncertainty went away. The staff know my name, they know I like thin congee in the morning, and they do not fuss. That means a great deal to me."

Mr. Lee Kwok-sun

Family member of resident

"My father has been at Lok Yin for about eighteen months now. What I notice most when I visit is that he looks well — not just comfortable, but genuinely at ease. He sits in the garden most mornings, has tea with a few of the other residents he has come to know, and talks about the meals in detail. I did not expect him to settle so easily."

Ms. Wong Hoi-ping

Resident, Dining & Garden

"The afternoon tea is my favourite part of the day. The kitchen makes different dim sum each week — it is never the same twice. I grew up in Sheung Wan, and the cooking here tastes like the kind my mother used to make for Sunday lunches. It is a simple thing but it matters."

Mrs. Lam Yuk-fong

Family member of resident

"I was worried about the cost at first, but the pricing is very clear — what is on the paper is exactly what you pay. No extra charges appeared after we signed. For families managing on a fixed budget, that transparency is something you do not take for granted."

Mr. Tang Bun-ming

Resident, Full Comfort Package

"I like that I can just sit in the garden and nobody asks why. Some mornings I read, some mornings I watch the plants, some mornings I just have my tea and think. The other residents around me are doing the same. It is a very particular kind of companionship — not forced, just present."

Ms. Cheung Kit-ha

Family member of resident

"We looked at a few places before Lok Yin. The difference we felt immediately here was how the staff spoke about the residents — not as clients or patients, but as people they genuinely knew. My mother has been here for nine months and that impression has held. The team is consistent and they care."

Resident Journeys

How residents found their way to Lok Yin

The situation

Living alone after retirement

Mr. Pang had lived alone in his Sheung Wan flat for seven years after retiring. His son, based in Singapore, visited twice a year. Meals were becoming an afterthought, and the days had grown very quiet.

The arrangement

Starting with dining, then the garden

His son found Lok Yin while researching options from Singapore. Mr. Pang began with the Shared Dining arrangement in May, joining for meals without giving up his flat. After three months, he asked about the garden access too.

Today

A full residence, at his own pace

Mr. Pang moved into a full residence room in September, keeping his flat for the time being. He now tends a small section of the garden most mornings. His son calls him after lunch, when he is usually in a good mood from the dim sum.

"I did not know how quiet I had become until the meals here reminded me what conversation sounded like."

The situation

Family searching from abroad

Mrs. Ho's two daughters live in Canada and Australia. When their mother fell in her Pokfulam flat, they needed to act quickly from a distance. They wanted something warm and personal, not a clinical facility.

The arrangement

Video call introduction, move within the week

The Lok Yin team spoke with both daughters over video call before Mrs. Ho's visit. The clarity about what was and was not included helped them make the decision. Mrs. Ho moved in within five days, starting on the Full Comfort Package.

Today

Settled and well over fourteen months

Both daughters visit when they can. They call the team whenever they want an update and receive it honestly. Mrs. Ho has mentioned the courtyard in every phone call for the past year.

"The team told us what they offered and what they did not. That honesty made everything simpler for us from across the world."
