Our Story

Built on the belief that
older adults deserve better.

Lok Yin was shaped around one idea: that life after sixty should be unhurried, surrounded by warmth, and free of unnecessary complication.

Who We Are

The story behind Lok Yin

Lok Yin — meaning "the joy of the worthy" in Cantonese — was founded in 2011 by a group of Hong Kong families who had each spent years searching for a residential option that felt genuinely like home for their parents and grandparents.

What they found was a gap. Nursing homes felt clinical. Independent apartments left older adults isolated. There was very little in between: a warm, staffed, community-oriented residence where daily life was comfortable but not institutionalised.

They chose 28 Stubbs Road in Mid-Levels for its accessibility, its green surroundings, and its position at the quieter, more residential end of a city that never quite stops moving.

Over the years, Lok Yin has grown carefully — a handful of additional rooms, a larger tea house, a landscaped rear courtyard. But the pace and spirit have remained the same.

Our team has always been small by design. We believe that knowing each resident's name, preferences, and daily rhythm is not optional — it is the foundation of what we offer. Staff join Lok Yin for the long term, and many residents know them well.

We do not offer medical care or nursing services. We are not a hospital, and we do not wish to be. What we offer is a considered daily life: good meals, green space, practical support, and the company of others at whatever level each resident prefers.

Families tell us that what they notice most on their first visit is the pace. Things here are not rushed. Meals are not hurried. The garden is simply there, every morning, for whoever wants it.

That pace is something we protect actively, and something we would be glad to show you in person.

What Guides Us

Our mission and values

Dignity First

Every decision at Lok Yin begins with respect for the resident as a whole person — their history, preferences, and right to spend each day as they choose.

Practical Warmth

We aim to be genuinely useful — handling the daily logistics of comfortable living so that residents and families can simply enjoy time together.

Unhurried Pace

Life at Lok Yin is not scheduled to the hour. Meals, walks, and social time follow the natural rhythm of the community — shaped by residents, not management.

All care and hospitality staff complete induction training and ongoing development. Senior team members hold relevant social services or hospitality qualifications from recognised Hong Kong institutions.

Senior living in Hong Kong, done thoughtfully

Finding the right residential arrangement for an older parent or relative in Hong Kong is rarely straightforward. The city offers few mid-ground options between full nursing care and entirely independent living. Lok Yin was created to occupy that space — a staffed, community-centred residence that supports daily life without removing independence or choice.

At 28 Stubbs Road, residents have access to prepared meals, a landscaped garden, practical errand support, and a consistent team that comes to know them well. Families describe the reassurance they feel knowing that their relative is in a home-like environment rather than a clinical facility.

Hong Kong's older population is growing, and so is awareness of what good senior living can look like. At Lok Yin, we believe it looks like a shared table, a morning walk through a shaded courtyard, and a team that remembers how you take your tea.
